May 6, 2021 – Progress continues at Jefferson Elementary School where Antinozzi Associates has been providing the architectural and interior design for this addition/renovation project in Norwalk. Construction began in March of this year, and recent project developments were highlighted in The Hour along with input from our interior design team.

“A major renovation to Jefferson Elementary School has moved to a new stage, with construction crews preparing to lay a foundation for a new gymnasium at the school. Crews have finished demolishing and removing 10 portable classrooms located in the rear of the building, opening the way for work to begin on a new wing to house the gym. In addition to building a new gym, the $33 million renovation project will result in more classroom space and a new playground, kitchen, and drop-off location for parents and school buses.

The interior design includes furniture such as standard desks and chairs as well as mobile whiteboards, rolling bookcases, horseshoe-style tables and storage units that double as writable surfaces. Patti McKeon, NCIDQ, WELL AP, a Senior Associate and Registered Interior Designer with Antinozzi Associates, the Bridgeport-based architectural firm hired to redesign the building, said the furniture was chosen after consulting with teachers and administrators who work at the school. ‘We sat down and met with every different group, discussed how they teach, and presented the best furnishing options,’ McKeon said.”

We aim to incorporate feedback from school administrators, educators, and facilities staff in all of our designs, from the facade down to the furniture, fixtures, and equipment. Flexible, movable furniture that can be easily converted for a variety of uses is today’s standard in classroom design, and we always have the needs of students and educators at the forefront of our minds when designing a school facility.
