University of Bridgeport – Cox Student Center

Location: Bridgeport, Connecticut
Area: 70,500 Square Feet
Completed: 2012

DESCRIPTION
The University of Bridgeport’s Cox Student Center is a renovation of an existing space designed as an oasis for students and staff to study, collaborate, and entertain. The existing conditions were demolished to the bare bones, with the exception of a student graffiti wall, and the concrete structure now acts as the main ceiling throughout the space.

FEATURES
An array of ceiling products create excitement, acoustical advantages, and an industrial, urban feel with varying heights and shapes relating to the many different student spaces for dining, technology, performances, and soft seating. This space is greatly used by commuter students and is open after hours. A food court, book store, convenience store, technology pods, and a stage performance area with a bar can be utilized by students between classes, or for evening events.

Antinozzi Associates also renovated the faculty dining room, or the “Great Room”, which included flooring, ceiling, lighting, and seating. The distinct patterning and floor layout of the bright colored tiles creates an inviting 400-seat capacity space.
